Inside the SentiLink First Party Fraud Flags
SentiLink provides a set of 2 true or false Flags that indicate first party fraud based on insights from our research and our continuously updating consortium of partner data. The first Flag highlights serial tradeline disputers (a.k.a. “credit washers”) and the second Flag calls attention to malicious authorized user purchasers (a.k.a. “piggybackers”).
Serial Disputer
This Flag surfaces applicants who are most likely to repeatedly apply for credit and loans, bust-out, and then contact the credit bureaus to claim that they were victims of identity theft at the time of application. This is sometimes referred to as “605b fraud” since it involves abuse of a provision of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Authorized User Purchaser
Applications using addresses associated with authorized tradeline sales are spotlighted via this Flag. These blacklisted addresses are strongly indicative of applicants piggybacking as an authorized user on another person’s tradeline to improve their own creditworthiness, as being added to a strong, “seasoned” tradeline demonstrably improves the applicant’s credit score. This tradeline piggybacking often leads financial institutions to mis-price the applicant’s credit risk due to the applicant having an
artificially (and falsely) higher credit score.
